Super adorable friendship
This book is by an SLP and it’s a perspective we didn’t get to see during disability book week. This book is about Nia and a friend she meets who is in a wheelchair. It’s a beautiful story about Nia finding out what her new friend enjoys. The perspective taking is a great example for how we should approach and treat people when we first meet them. The inclusion shown in the illustrations are gorgeous.
Thank you for this perspective because as readers we need to be more supported and make our purpose to learn about others interests and things we enjoy.

As a mom of a wheelchair user, I was so excited to receive this book. It told a beautiful story of a friendship that knew no boundaries. I also appreciated the familiarity of the families. There was great representation and character references for black children, black families, and children with disabilities. A must have for your child’s book shelf!

Nia Skye's Friend on Wheels is a powerful, adorable, fun, important, and incredible story! This book is so special! It promotes wheel chair inclusitivity in the most wonderful way! Nia Skye is amazed by an incredible performer on wheels at her first play. She goes up to compliment her which turns into a wonderful friendship. Nia learns courage, belief in herself, and that everyone is equally unique and special from her new friend. Her world view is expanded. Her friend on wheels ends up teaching her the power of purpose. This fun story introduces important concepts in a beautiful way by point out how special each individual is instead of pointing out differences. I am deeming this a must read!
